UOWD students learn from Prakash Menon's inspiring tale
Wednesday, 04 March, 2015
Students from across the University were inspired by an interactive seminar from Prakash ‘PK’ Menon, ex Director of Logistics and Supply Chain for Australia’s leading department store, when he came to the UOWD hosted Human Resource Forum last week. From humble beginnings cleaning toilets for the Taj Group of Hotels, Prakash divulged how he went on to achieve extraordinary results for the hospitality chain, climbing through the ranks in record time to head up the food and beverage team. A move to Australia saw Prakash work his way up at Myer to deliver an unprecedented $25 million increase to the retail giant’s bottom line within just 12 months and transform the supply chain landscape on a global scale. Talking about his experiences, Prakash observed that “sometimes in life we have to be our own architects” – a comment that rang true for many of the University’s Masters students in the audience who are currently wondering what direction to explore after their studies. Now a global expert in thought leadership, Prakash explained that the key to becoming an effective leader is to ‘think once, deliver often,’ before going on to describe the nine driving trends of thought leadership to the 90 strong audience.
