UOWD's girls' volleyball team stars of Manipal sports festival

The University of Wollongong in Dubai (UOWD)'s recent success at the Manipal Sports Festival in Dubai has been yet another achievement for the institution with five teams performing outstandingly across the five-day festival and trophy success for the girls’ volleyball team.The girls’ volleyball team were stars of the show, with a convincing three set victory in the final against BITS Planni Institute of Technology and Science. UOWD scored highly in all three sets, with scores of 25-10, 25-11, and 25-8.Florence Pagdanganan, captain of the girls’ volleyball team commented on her team’s performance, saying: “as long as you put your dedication into the sports that you play, nothing is impossible. You’ve got to push yourself harder and love what you do. It has been an amazing experience playing alongside a team who love volleyball as much as I do.”With 25 teams competing in total from universities across the UAE, skilful performances from the girls’ football team, along with the boys’ basketball, cricket and table tennis teams ensured Dubai’s oldest private university came home with a number of runners-up titles in tow. The girls’ football team narrowly missed out on trophy success after a 2-3 defeat against Herriot Watt University. The boys’ basketball team, cricket team and table tennis squad also suffered losses due to excellent performances by the American University of Sharjah, Herriot Watt University and BITS Pilani.UOWD’s sports teams are looking forward to Middlesex University Sports Festival, which kicks off on Sunday 22 March.
