The Language Studies Centre (LSC) at the University of Wollongong in Dubai (UOWD) recently hosted a showcase for students enrolled in the full-time English Language Program, recognising their outstanding achievements throughout the duration of the course. During the event the two top achievers of the program were awarded with scholarships and certificates were given to the students who delivered the best writing essays and presentations in recognition of their achievements. Other activities included a fun-filled quiz, testing their general knowledge about the UAE and the University and a photo competition where the students voted for the best photograph. The winner of the competition, Lorenzo Dondi from Italy, walked away with a virgin megastore gift voucher. The students had a fun and enjoyable time interacting with other students and the LSC faculty. “The time I spend at LSC was extremely valuable. The team provided us with a great environment to learn and were dedicated to support us to improve our skills. These kind of programs really do encourage us as students to study more and to achieve our goals”, commented LSC student, Sayed Humayone. Sonia Adams, teacher at the centre said that the LSC Showcase celebrates the progress students have made over the term by highlighting their achievements. “As well as giving students a window to the work of others, the Showcase is an event that enhances camaraderie and friendships through fun ESL activities”, she concluded
